On November 7, passersby were surprised when at the intersections with Tran Hung Dao Street (Hanoi), the traffic lights had left behind for seconds.
Accordingly, at the Phan Chu Trinh - Tran Hung Dao, Ngo Quyen - Tran Hung Dao, Hang Bai - Tran Hung Dao, Ba Trieu - Tran Hung Dao, Quang Trung - Tran Hung Dao, Le Thanh Tong - Tran Hung Dao intersections, for the red light cycle, after almost the end of the light cycle, the light will flash once for about 2-3 seconds then switch to blue light.
In contrast, for the green light cycle, it will only flick once and turn yellow, then turn red.
However, since the evening of November 10, the traffic light system on this road has changed.
Instead of completely removing the countdown like in previous days, the above intersections have now displayed the countdown of seconds, but in just the last 8 - 9 seconds of the cycle (the Le Thanh Tong - Tran Hung Dao button alone has not yet counted seconds).
For the green light cycle, the system does not display the reverse count from the beginning but only appears in the last 8 - 9 seconds, then the light turns yellow for about 2 - 3 seconds and turns red.
Similarly, in the red light cycle, the counting number only appears in the last 8 - 9 seconds before turning green.
According to the reporter, people basically comply with the light signal regulations, no longer confused by the way the new light signal is displayed.
"I see that having a reverse counter will help road users be more proactive in moving. So that it is as good as it is now, there are 8 last seconds for the people to know.
Like in previous days, the lights were turning yellow and then red, very fast, many people did not have time to react", Mr. Nguyen The Manh (Hoan Kiem ward, Hanoi) shared.
Mr. Manh also said that if we want to put down the counting of backwards like other countries, we must also implement it step by step - "Change gradually so that people can adapt. In general, each person's awareness is still the most important thing," Mr. Manh shared.
Sharing the same opinion with Mr. Manh, Mr. Nguyen Huu Trang (Cau Giay Ward) also hopes that the traffic light system at the intersections "can be kept as big as the Pham Van Bach - Hoang Quan Chi intersection".
On social networking sites about traffic, many users also expressed their opinion that it is advisable to maintain displaying reverse numbers on traffic lights to make traffic participants more proactive.

Previously, the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) - Hanoi City Police informed that the unit is coordinating with specialized units to upgrade the traffic light control system in the area, applying modern technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and real-time data, to improve command, control and reduce traffic congestion.
During the implementation period, the rear light system at some intersections will temporarily not work to serve the upgrading and replacement of control equipment.
The Hanoi Traffic Police Department recommends that traffic participants strictly follow traffic light signals and instructions from the traffic police force to ensure safety, order and smooth traffic during construction.
