Speaking with reporters, Mr. Nguyen Duc Truong - Vice Chairman of Cao Bang City People's Committee said that this morning (September 21), the City People's Committee and Ngoc Xuan Ward People's Committee have just come to express condolences and encourage the family of Nong Huong Tr (born in 2015, residing in Group 1, De Tham Ward) after the unfortunate incident.
"At the same time, the city also unexpectedly awarded certificates of merit to people with a brave spirit to save the passing person" - Mr. Truong said.
According to initial information from Ngoc Xuan Ward Police, at around 1:30 p.m. on April 20, 4 girls went to the Bang Giang River area (the section bordering Group 1, Ngoc Xuan Ward and Group 6, De Tham Ward) to swim. At around 3:30 p.m., the group was swept away by the water. The identities of the students include:
Nong Huong Tr (born in 2015, residing in group 1, De Tham ward)
Dinh Thi Mai H (born in 2015, residing in group 6, De Tham ward)
Hoang Bao Th (born in 2015, residing in group 6, De Tham ward)
Dinh Chu Thuy D (born in 2012, residing in group 6, De Tham ward)
While being swept away by the water, Dinh Chu Thuy D drifted to the riverbank and ran up to cry for help from the people. At this time, Mr. Ha Thanh Toan (residing in Group 1, Ngoc Xuan Ward) jumped into the river with two students in the group to save the victims. The two children were rescued.
Nong Huong Tr was the last to be pulled up because he had sunk under the river. The victim was quickly transferred to Cao Bang General Hospital for emergency treatment but did not survive.
Ngoc Xuan Ward Police said that through initial verification, no signs of crime were detected in the incident.
The victim's family did not request an autopsy. Local authorities visited, encouraged and supported the family in organizing the funeral.
