On May 29, according to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Nghe An province, since the beginning of the year, the whole province has recorded at least 70 outbreaks in 13 districts, cities and towns. The total number of pigs forced to be destroyed is over 1,700, with a total weight of over 99 tons.
The districts with the highest number of outbreaks include Yen Thanh (11 outbreaks), Do Luong and Nghi Loc (10 outbreaks), Quynh Luu (9 outbreaks), Anh Son and Thanh Chuong (all 7 outbreaks). Of which, Anh Son district is currently a hot spot with more than 800 infected pigs destroyed in 8 communes and towns.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nam (Duc Son commune, Anh Son district) said: "My pigs have been sick since the beginning of May, and have had to destroy 3 pigs. After that, the family took the initiative to handle the environment but still did not dare to reform the herd".

In Thanh Chuong district, the epidemic is complicated with 94 households in 13 communes forced to destroy nearly 700 pigs, with a total weight of more than 33 tons. Mr. Tran Phi Hung - Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Environment - said that the underlying cause is the common small-scale livestock farming, poor hygiene conditions and some places are still subjective and lacking determination in epidemic prevention.
Not only stopping at Anh Son, Thanh Chuong or Con Cuong, the epidemic is also spreading in many other districts such as Quynh Luu, Do Luong, Yen Thanh, Nghi Loc... In the context of a shortage of slaughter control networks, poor livestock farming and failure to report in time, epidemic prevention in localities faces many obstacles.
Faced with the risk of spreading, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee has directed departments, branches and localities to tighten epidemic prevention and control measures. Mr. Nguyen Van De - Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee requested the synchronous implementation of disease control solutions, strengthening grassroots supervision, early detection and thorough handling of outbreaks according to procedures.
In particular, the provincial leaders requested that the situation of administrative apparatus reorganization not affect epidemic prevention and control at the grassroots level. At the same time, it is recommended that localities coordinate with the veterinary sector in making statistics and preparing damage records to promptly support people.
The provincial agricultural sector recommends that people do not hide their epidemics, do not arbitrarily sell pigs when there are signs of disease, strictly carry out periodic disinfection, disinfection with lime powder, biological chemicals and limit the transportation of pigs that have not been quarantined.
