At the end of July 2025, the People's Committee of Vinh Thuy commune (Quang Tri province) announced that African swine fever (DTLCP) appeared in 7 villages including: Huynh Thuong, Dang Xa, Duy Vien, Quang Xa, Lam Cao, Thuy Ba Dong, Duc Xa. Faced with complicated developments, the commune government has directed specialized forces and livestock farmers to coordinate in zoning and handling the situation thoroughly, not allowing the epidemic to spread to neighboring areas.
A few days earlier, Vinh Linh commune also recorded the epidemic in Sa Nam, Phuc Lam, Hoa Nam, Gia Lam villages and Vinh Tien and 7 neighborhoods. Immediately after the discovery, the People's Committee of the commune synchronously deployed control measures, increased the effectiveness of epidemic control, and strictly managed pigs and pig products entering and leaving the epidemic area.
In villages where there has not been an epidemic, local authorities have proactively increased supervision, instructed people to strictly implement epidemic prevention procedures, and promptly handled any signs of arising. However, the epidemic continues to spread, causing farmers to worry.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province, from May 15 to now, the epidemic has tended to spread rapidly, with no specific medicine. One of the reasons is that the small-scale barn system is not guaranteed, people have not strictly followed biosafety measures, and there is still a situation of handling dead pigs in violation of regulations.
Up to now, the whole province has 40 communes and wards with 242 villages and neighborhoods with pigs infected with the disease. A total of 1,637 households have destroyed 11,774 pigs, weighing more than 691 tons. In this situation, the Provincial People's Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 01/CD-UBND dated July 7, 2025 and Official Dispatch No. 126/UBND-NNMT dated July 16, 2025, requiring localities to focus all their efforts on controlling the epidemic.
On July 22, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Hoang Nam Provincial People's Committee directly inspected Quang Trach and Trung Thuan communes, and chaired an online meeting with 23 communes with epidemics or high risks.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment mobilized 98 sprayers, more than 6,000 liters of disinfectants, increased professional staff, and coordinated with local veterinary forces to suppress the epidemic as quickly as possible. The agricultural sector calls on livestock farmers to closely coordinate with the government and veterinary forces, strictly implement epidemic prevention and control measures, contribute to protecting livestock and stabilizing production.
It is known that on July 25, the provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine established a hotline to support the work of preventing and fighting African swine fever to strengthen coordination and promptly handle difficulties and problems in the process of implementing disease prevention and control measures.
