Reading the eulogy at the memorial service, Colonel Le Tien Dung - Deputy Political Commissar of Dien Bien Provincial Military Command emphasized that after more than 70 years, today the martyrs were gathered at Doc Lap Cemetery with their comrades in a respectful and solemn welcome by the Party Committee, government, armed forces and people of all ethnic groups in Dien Bien province.
"Before the souls of martyrs, the Party Committee, government, armed forces and people of all ethnic groups in Dien Bien province vow to firmly build and protect the Fatherland; continue to carry out the renovation process, and steadily move forward to gain many victories" - Colonel Le Tien Dung emotionally spoke.
At the memorial service, leaders of the Dien Bien Provincial Military Command, agencies, departments, branches and people laid wreaths and offered incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs - the nation's outstanding sons who fought and heroically sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
After the memorial service, the authorities of Dien Bien province organized a thoughtful, solemn and proper burial of the martyrs' remains.
Previously, the authorities had verified information about the grave of an unidentified martyr who died in the resistance war against the French and was buried in the garden of Ms. Dinh Thi Mien's family, village C9, Thanh Xuong commune (Dien Bien district).
The Provincial Military Command coordinated with the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the Steering Committee of 24 Dien Bien districts, the Party Committee, the government, the militia force of Thanh Xuong commune and the people to organize the exhumation according to customs and rituals. The martyr's grave still has a part of the remains and the relics as a communication line.
