The work of repatriating martyrs' remains at Le Thi Rieng Park continues to be accelerated. On August 5, the Repatriation Team (Ho Chi Minh City Command) focused on expanding the grave ditch in Zone B, unloading more than 300m3 of hill soil to access deeper search locations.
Thanks to efforts to closely monitor the scene, functional forces discovered and exhumed an additional 12 sets of martyrs' remains, including 7 sets accompanied by artifacts.
To date, the total number of martyrs' remains collected at the project has reached 209 sets. There are 183 sets located separately and 26 sets belonging to 6 collective grave locations (including 2 locations in Zone A and 4 locations in Zone B). Currently, the expansion of the grave trench is still being urgently carried out.
The work of searching for and repatriating martyrs' remains at Le Thi Rieng Park is still being urgently implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City Command, with the goal of expanding the search scope, ensuring that no locations suspected of having martyrs' remains are missed.
Le Thi Rieng Park area was formerly Do Thanh - Chi Hoa cemetery (Saigon). Through comparison of historical documents, documentary photos, witness accounts and geophysical survey results, functional agencies determined that this place showed signs of burying cadres and soldiers who sacrificed in the General Offensive and Uprising of Spring Mau Than 1968.
The excavation process is carried out carefully, each layer of soil is peeled and carefully screened to avoid missing remains, artifacts and valuable traces serving the work of identifying martyrs.
