On October 30, the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities in Kien Giang Province in 2024 officially took place with the participation of 250 delegates representing more than 260,000 ethnic minorities in the province. The Congress has the theme "Ethnic minority communities in Kien Giang Province unite and are determined to promote digital transformation strategies to contribute to promoting advantages and potentials for integration and development".
This congress set the goal of developing the economy, improving the lives of ethnic minorities, narrowing the gap in living standards between ethnic groups in the community by 2029; the average income of ethnic minorities is half of the average of the province; reducing the poverty rate among ethnic minorities to below 2%; basically no more extremely disadvantaged communes and hamlets...
Speaking at the congress, Mr. Mai Van Huynh - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Kien Giang province said that over the past 5 years, ethnic affairs, ethnic policies and patriotic emulation movements of ethnic minorities have been directed and implemented by Party committees at all levels, authorities, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations in the province, achieving many positive results. Many resources have been mobilized, many national target programs have been integrated to focus on investing in socio-economic development for localities with a large number of ethnic minorities.
The people's living standards have improved, the poverty rate has decreased to 2.4%. Currently, 100% of ethnic minority communes have car roads to the center; over 90% of extremely disadvantaged hamlets have roads; 100% of extremely disadvantaged communes have electricity grids to the center, 100% of ethnic minority communes have national standard medical stations...
Mr. Mai Van Huynh requested that Party committees, authorities, fronts, organizations and ethnic minorities focus on implementing a number of key tasks in the 2024-2029 period, such as: Organizing and implementing the Government's ethnic work strategy until 2020; Creating all favorable conditions for ethnic minorities to maintain and promote cultural activities and traditional festivals of their ethnic groups; Paying attention to planning, training and arranging the use of ethnic minority cadres...
Ms. Nong Thi Ha - Deputy Minister, Vice Chairwoman of the Ethnic Committee highly appreciated the preparation and the very profound and comprehensive summary of the congress. The Party Executive Committee and the leaders of the Ethnic Committee hope and request the Party Committee, government, army and people of ethnic minorities in Kien Giang to continue to strongly affirm the great contributions and proud achievements in the past 5 years in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. Thereby, constantly fostering trust in the leadership of the Party at all levels, the administration of the government and the attention of the entire political system; especially the cause of innovation so that ethnic minorities continue to make proactive efforts and determinedly strive to achieve greater achievements.
For delegates and ethnic minorities, Ms. Nong Thi Ha hopes to prioritize time and money, creating all conditions for children to go to school, play, and study thoroughly.
Along with that, ethnic minorities need to actively participate in the fight against negative phenomena and social evils, fight against distorted and destructive arguments of hostile forces, do not believe, follow, and do not let bad people take advantage of and entice them to harm the Fatherland.
