Dong Nai records 8-year-old boy's death due to measles

Dong Nai - On November 18, the leader of Dong Nai Children's Hospital said that in the area, a boy named H.T.H. (8 years old, living in Bien Hoa City) died of measles.

Previously at home, baby H. had a high fever, cough, runny nose, and rash all over the body.

On November 15, the family took the child to Dong Nai Children's Hospital for examination and was diagnosed with measles with pneumonia complications, requiring hospitalization. After that, the family asked for the child to be discharged from the hospital at the family's request.

On November 17, the family discovered that baby H. was purple and did not respond to calls, so they took the baby to Dong Nai Children's Hospital.

The patient was admitted to the hospital in a state of respiratory and circulatory arrest, deep coma, purple lips, unmeasurable blood oxygen level, zero pulse and blood pressure, scattered erythema all over the body, scattered petechiae on the face, dilated pupils on both sides, and stiff jaw muscles.

After 50 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, baby H. was confirmed to have died outside the hospital due to measles complications with severe pneumonia.

According to the Dong Nai Provincial Center for Disease Control, from the beginning of the year to November 14, the whole province has recorded 1,893 measles cases. Meanwhile, in the same period in 2023, Dong Nai had only 3 measles cases. Currently, Dong Nai Children's Hospital is treating about 150 cases.
