Dong Nai temporarily detains more than 3,900 pigs to verify banned substances

Dong Nai - The City Sub-Department of Livestock and Fisheries is coordinating to temporarily seize more than 3,900 pigs suspected of being positive for banned substances for quantitative analysis.

On August 5, the Sub-Department of Livestock and Fisheries of Dong Nai city conducted inspections and verifications of pig collection facilities and farms. Accordingly, from July 28 to August 4, the Sub-Department discovered that farms and farms in Tri An ward, Dau Giay ward and Hung Thinh commune (Dong Nai city) had pigs testing positive for Salbutamol belonging to the Beta-agonist group (a lean meat-creating substance banned from use in livestock breeding).

The Sub-Department of Livestock and Fisheries of Dong Nai city is temporarily detaining more than 3,900 pigs from livestock facilities and farms; at the same time, sending urine samples for quantitative analysis to determine the content of Salbutamol and Clenbuterol. When there are analysis results, functional sectors will strictly handle violations.

The Sub-Department of Livestock and Fisheries of Dong Nai city continues to coordinate with the authorities of communes and wards to expand inspections and verify the use of banned substances in livestock breeding, especially at collection facilities and fattening pig farms; advise on plans to organize banned substance inspections in livestock breeding; promptly transfer dossiers to investigating agencies for cases with signs of crime or acts of buying, selling, transporting, storing, and supplying banned substances contrary to regulations.

Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, on July 26, the Ho Chi Minh City Sub-Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine discovered 3 shipments (including 280 pigs) transporting pigs positive for banned substances belonging to the Beta-Agonist group (Salbutamol, Clenbuterol); positive for African swine fever virus. Then, on July 28, the Dong Nai City Sub-Department of Livestock and Fisheries established a verification team, traced the source and conducted rapid sample testing at establishments and pig farms and detected positive for banned substance Salbutamol, so samples were sent for quantitative analysis.
