According to Lao Dong reporters, at around 3:30 a.m. on January 23 (December 24) at the domestic terminal of Tan Son Nhat airport, a large number of people lined up at the check-in area, waiting to complete procedures.
Although crowded, the atmosphere was still quite orderly, everyone tried to comply with security check regulations and keep a safe distance.
Mr. Tran Nhat Hung (24 years old, living in Binh Thanh district) had to go to the airport at 1:30 am because he was afraid of traffic jams, which would affect the check-in process.
"I saw people posting online about the traffic jams on the way to the airport a few days ago, so I was quite worried. I thought that at this time, many people were returning to their hometowns for Tet, so traffic would be jammed at any time, so I tried to leave early, even though my flight was at 4:15 a.m.," said Mr. Hung.
Not only inside the airport, the parking area and the roads leading to the airport are also very crowded. The large number of passengers pouring into the airport makes it difficult to move around.
According to information from Tan Son Nhat International Airport, on January 23, this airport is expected to serve 1,000 flights with a total of 138,374 passengers. Of which, there are 341 domestic flights, equivalent to 64,238 passengers.
The unit also said that thanks to good preparation of infrastructure in sync with flight operations, Tan Son Nhat airport has adjusted the announced slot parameters of some time frames to 48 flights during the day and 46 flights at night from January 21 (December 22) to February 9 (January 12).
This will help airlines increase their capacity by 18% compared to previous estimates to meet passenger travel needs.
