The National Highway 50 Construction and Expansion Project (Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) consists of 2 parts: a 4.3 km parallel road (started in December 2022) and an additional 2.6 km of the existing National Highway 50 (started in March 2024). Up to now, a section of about 2 km long on the parallel route (from near the intersection of Trinh Quang Nghi Street to the entrance to National Highway 50) has been technically opened to traffic at the end of 2024.
However, in reality, there are still some locations with site clearance problems, affecting construction. At Trinh Quang Nghi intersection on the parallel road, there is still a location that has not been completely handed over. On the existing National Highway 50 expansion section, especially within the reach of Ong Thin Bridge, there are still some problems related to compensation procedures, receiving resettlement land or arising complaints after handover.
The transportation committee proposed that the People's Committee of Binh Chanh district continue to coordinate with departments and localities to mobilize the remaining households to soon complete the handover of the ground. This is a prerequisite to accelerate the construction progress, ensuring the completion of the project at the end of 2025 under the direction of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
The project to build and expand National Highway 50 (Binh Chanh District) has a total investment of nearly 1,500 billion VND, the section intersecting with Nguyen Van Linh Street (HCMC), the end section bordering Long An Province. The project is nearly 7 km long. Of which, more than 4.3 km will be built as a new parallel route, the remaining section will expand the existing road from 7 m to 34 m with 6 lanes.
After completion, the project is expected to reduce traffic pressure for the southern area of Ho Chi Minh City, especially the routes connecting to Long An, while improving travel conditions and environmental sanitation for people in Binh Chanh area.
