In late July 2025, according to people's feedback, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters were present in Ban Ho commune (old Sa Pa town) to record the messy traffic route leading to the commune center, posing a potential risk to traffic safety.
At the time of recording, according to observations, this route was still unfinished and not completed, making it difficult for people to travel. Mr. Dao Anh Cong (character's name has been changed) - a local resident was upset: "It has been more than two years since the start of construction, we have only seen dumping materials and leaving them there. Many days, children fall while going to school because of potholes. The elderly also felt scared. I don't know whether to invest in building a road or to cause more inconvenience to the people".
Through research, the road package to the center of Ban Ho commune is worth more than 11 billion VND, expected to improve traffic infrastructure to the center of Ban Ho commune (old Sa Pa town).
The project is implemented by the Joint Venture of Anh Duc Construction & Trading Company Limited and Quang Sang Construction Investment Company Limited, approved by competent authorities from November 2022, with an expected construction period of 360 days.
The project has a total length of 1.6km, including: The main route is more than 1.2km long (from Km22+600 of DT.152 road to Km1+231.03 of the central bridge of Ban Ho commune), the branch to the commune People's Committee headquarters is more than 0.3km long and the branch to the central parking lot is 0.119km long.
However, after more than a year of deadline, the construction site has fallen into a state of almost "inactive labor", without machinery, without workers and without signs of completion. The worrying thing is that many items of the project have now begun to deteriorate significantly. The concrete components are cracked, covered with moss, the sections of the natural steel embankment are rusty, and construction materials are exposed to the sun and rain for a long time, causing the construction quality to be at risk of not being guaranteed. Some locations of the roadbed have sunk and are stuck for a long time, causing serious erosion.
According to local people, the patchwork construction lasted for many months, causing the entire route to lose connectivity. Along with that, the ditch system is not smooth, the road surface is broken and bumpy, seriously affecting daily life, production and travel safety.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Hoang Ngoc Tai - representative of the Sa Pa Construction Investment Project Management Board - said: "The main reason for the delay in the road project to the center of Ban Ho commune is due to problems in site clearance. Therefore, contractors are forced to construct continuously, and those that can be cleared must be done first, while those that have not been cleared must be temporarily left.
According to Mr. Tai, the newly completed work volume is about 40% because there are currently 22 households that have not been cleared. The project has now been extended, expected to be completed on August 30, 2025.
