The project to prevent landslides and restore the landscape of the southern bank of Tra Khuc River (from Tra Khuc 1 Bridge to Tam Thuong Wharf) started construction in December 2024 with a total investment of 380 billion VND, invested by the Quang Ngai Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board.
Construction is expected to take 18 months. The goal is to both prevent riverbank erosion and beautify the urban area, form public spaces for entertainment and recreation, creating a landscape highlight for the provincial center.
This is a project that when implemented, was enthusiastically supported by the people of Quang Ngai province. Because the Tra Khuc River area, from Tra Khuc 1 bridge to Tam Thuong wharf, has a very beautiful location. But for many years, the pollution here has always been a pain.
Taking advantage of the overwhelmingness of trees and the road from the head of Tra Khuc 1 bridge to Tra Khuc 2 bridge with few people passing by, many people unconsciously brought their garbage here to dump. From soap to tanks, plastic bags... are scattered everywhere. There were times when this area gave off a foul smell, making people upset. Some signs prohibiting dumping and discharging waste have been installed but still cannot prevent pollution.
Mr. Truong Dinh Hieu - Head of Project Management Department 1 - said that contractors are currently focusing on simultaneous construction of embankment items (pouring concrete for the top of the retaining wall, installing railings, paving the square and walking paths...). The 1.2km long riverbank protection embankment project has been completed, ensuring flood prevention for this year's rainy season, earlier than planned. Other items such as walking paths in the park, cheap fan squares, technical infrastructure... are also being implemented simultaneously.
The total capital allocated for the project to date is 276/380 billion VND. To date, over 145 billion VND has been disbursed.
According to Mr. Truong Dinh Hieu, to speed up the project progress, Project Management Department 1 has requested the Provincial Land Fund Development Center to coordinate with local authorities to carry out related procedures to approve the first phase plan (agricultural and organizational land) before November 30, 2025; the second phase plan for residential land (expected 7 lots/6 households) before December 30, 2025. Regarding construction and installation work, contractors are requested to urgently mobilize materials and equipment to the project to simultaneously implement construction items such as concrete embankment tops, stone paving, infrastructure items in Ba To Park, ... to ensure completion value according to approved schedule.
According to Mr. Tran Hoang Vinh - Director of the Quang Ngai Province Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board: "Since the end of August, the embankment project of Tam Thuong wharf has been transferred to construction on the shore to ensure safety during the rainy and flood season. For sections with favorable land, we request contractors to speed up the progress, striving to complete before November 2025".
