Heavy rain forecast to continue in the South

HẠ MÂY |

According to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station, widespread thunderstorms continue in the South.

On the afternoon of October 8, monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning showed that the thunderstorm area was developing and causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning in the Can Gio area, Phu Nhuan district, Binh Thanh district, Thu Duc city. In addition, thunderstorms in the provinces of Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Long An also tended to expand and move towards Ho Chi Minh City.

In the next 0 - 3 hours, thunderstorms will continue to develop, causing showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the above districts, then expanding to other neighboring areas.

Rainfall is generally from 5-15mm, some places over 15mm. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, hail and strong gusts of wind around level 5-7 (8-17m/s), heavy rain causing localized flooding.

The thunderstorms are caused by the equatorial low pressure trough with an axis at about 7-10 degrees North latitude combined with high-altitude easterly wind disturbances affecting the weather in the Southern region.

Weather forecast for the next 24-48 hours, the continental cold high pressure will gradually weaken. The equatorial low pressure trough with an axis of about 6-10 degrees North latitude will remain. Above, the subtropical high pressure will lower its axis to the South through the North. The easterly wind disturbance above will affect the South. In the sea areas of the South, the wind will be light.

From 72 hours to the 10th day, the continental cold high pressure gradually weakened, and around October 12 and October 16, it strengthened weakly and shifted east again. The equatorial low pressure trough had stable intensity, and around October 13-14, it gradually shifted south and weakened.

Above, the subtropical high pressure axis descends southward through the North Central region, high-altitude wind disturbances remain over the Southern region. Over the southern seas, the East to Northeast winds are weak.

Therefore, thunderstorms continue to increase in the Southern region. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. Beware of the possibility of heavy rain causing localized flooding in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage capacity.
