Heavy rain forecast in the South

HẠ MÂY |

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, widespread heavy rain continues to occur in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces and cities.

On the afternoon of October 6, thunderstorms are developing, causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning in the provinces of An Giang, Tien Giang, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Long An, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, and Tay Ninh.

In the next 0 - 3 hours, thunderstorms will continue to develop, causing showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the above areas, then expanding to other neighboring areas.

Rainfall is generally from 5-20mm, some places over 20mm. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, hail, strong gusts of wind around level 5-7 (8-17m/s), heavy rain causing localized flooding.

The thunderstorms are caused by a weak strengthening of the continental cold high pressure. The equatorial low pressure trough has an axis at about 7-10 degrees North latitude. The disturbance of the East wind above affects the weather in the Southern region.

Weather forecast for the next 24-48 hours, the cold continental high pressure will strengthen and weaken again in the North of our country. The equatorial low pressure trough with an axis of about 6-10 degrees North latitude has stable intensity.

Above, the subtropical high pressure has an axis over the north of Bac Bo and southern China. Over the southern seas, the wind is light.

From 72 hours to the 10th day, the cold continental high pressure continued to strengthen weakly, then weakened and moved to the East from October 9-10, and around October 13, it weakened and strengthened again.

The equatorial low pressure trough has stable intensity, gradually weakening until around October 12-13. Above, the subtropical high pressure axis descends southward through the North with slowly weakening intensity; from October 12, it becomes active, encroaching west again. In the sea areas of the South, the East to Northeast wind has weak intensity.

Therefore, thunderstorms continue to increase in the South. Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. Beware of the possibility of heavy rain causing localized flooding in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage capacity.
