Southern region forecast for prolonged thunderstorms until mid-August

The southwest monsoon is gradually becoming stronger combined with convergence of winds above, causing the South to maintain thunderstorms in the late afternoon for many days to come.

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, the weather pattern forecast for the next 24-48 hours, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) maintains its axis through the Northern and North Central regions. Southwest monsoons tend to gradually strengthen. Above, subtropical high pressure with a southern branch through the South China Sea continues to weaken, creating conditions for upper-level wind convergence to operate more effectively.

Forecast from 3-10 days, the intertropical convergence zone will move slowly to the North and gradually weaken. Southwest monsoon maintains intensity from moderate to strong. Above, the subtropical high pressure branch in the South continues to weaken, lowering its axis to the South and from around August 11-12, it tends to encroach back to the West. Upper-level wind convergence continues to operate well in the Southern region.

Therefore, the South is generally experiencing intermittent sunshine during the day, showers and thunderstorms appear in the afternoon and evening; some places have moderate rain, locally heavy rain.

In thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, posing a risk of affecting agricultural production, breaking and collapsing green trees, damaging houses, traffic works and infrastructure. Localized heavy rain can also cause flooding, traffic congestion, affecting daily life, production and crops.
