In the afternoon of June 25, monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning data showed that convective cloud areas are developing strongly, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in many areas in Ho Chi Minh City and some neighboring localities.
Currently, thunderstorm clouds appear in Cau Ong Lanh, Binh Tien, Phu Dinh wards; Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong, Can Gio, Chau Pha, Ngai Giao, Kim Long and Chau Duc communes.
In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop, causing showers and thunderstorms in the above areas, then it is likely to expand to neighboring areas such as Nghia Thanh commune, Thanh An commune, Xuan Son commune, Chau Duc commune, along with Phu My, Tan Hai, Tan Thanh wards and many surrounding areas.
Common rainfall is from 5-20 mm, in some places over 30 mm. During thunderstorms, people need to be wary of dangerous weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-7 (8-17 m/s). Heavy rain in a short time can also cause localized flooding in low-lying areas.
According to the meteorological agency, in the next 24-48 hours, a low pressure trough with an axis of about 23-26 degrees North latitude connected to the hot low pressure area to the West will continue to be compressed by a continental high pressure mass in the North. Southwest monsoon maintains medium intensity. Above, subtropical high pressure weakens and gradually moves to the East, creating favorable conditions for wind convergence activities to develop more favorably.
From now until about 10 days, a low pressure trough with an axis of about 22-25 degrees North latitude will continue to exist and gradually fill. Around June 29-30, it is forecast to form a low pressure trough in the Northwest - Southeast direction passing through the Central region. Meanwhile, the Southwest monsoon in the South maintains its average intensity and tends to gradually strengthen in the last days of the month.
Due to the impact of the above weather patterns, the Southern region will continue to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, with common rainfall from 10-30 mm, locally over 60 mm. Many localities are likely to experience moderate to heavy rain, even very heavy rain in a short time.
The meteorological agency recommends that people closely monitor weather forecasts, and proactively prevent tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms. These extreme weather phenomena can cause damage to agricultural production, break down green trees, and affect houses and infrastructure.
