Trade unions get involved, seafood processing workers receive late-paying salaries

Lam Dong - After the trade union and police worked with businesses, workers at a seafood processing company were paid the delayed salary.

On the morning of June 15, Mr. Tang Minh Vien - Chairman of Phan Thiet Ward Trade Union (Lam Dong province) - said that seafood processing enterprises in the area have paid outstanding salaries to workers after the trade union and the police force intervened to work.

Previously, on the afternoon of June 9, many workers working at Bien Dong Seafood Processing Joint Stock Company gathered at the company headquarters to request settlement of late payment wages. However, at this time, there was no business representative standing out to resolve the case.

To ensure security and order, Phan Thiet Ward Police were present at the scene, mobilized workers to leave and wait for the business to handle it.

By the afternoon of June 10, about 40 workers continued to come to the company to request payment of wages. Faced with the above situation, the Phan Thiet Ward Trade Union coordinated with the Ward Police to work with business leaders, requesting the unit to soon allocate financial resources to pay wages to workers according to regulations.

According to Mr. Tang Minh Vien, the enterprise owes salaries to about 126 workers with a total amount of about 150 million VND. Most of the workers here do seafood processing work, are paid hourly, and do not sign labor contracts.

Those who are owed salaries are not union members, but with the responsibility of the trade union organization in the area, the Phan Thiet Ward Trade Union also intervenes to protect the rights of workers.

Talking to reporters, many workers said they came to the company to work processing seafood. The wage for male workers is 45,000 VND/hour, female workers is 30,000 VND/hour. Salaries have been delayed from the end of April 2026.

After the working process of the trade union and the police, the enterprise has fully paid the outstanding salary. When their rights were guaranteed, some workers returned to work at the company.

According to the Lam Dong Provincial Labor Federation, this enterprise established a grassroots trade union many years ago, but currently no union members participate in activities. Information from the social insurance agency said that this company has 8 employees, owing social insurance for 6 months with an amount of nearly 100 million VND.

Leaders of Phan Thiet Ward Trade Union said that the unit will review grassroots trade unions that no longer have union members to dissolve them according to regulations, and at the same time consider re-establishing grassroots trade unions in units that meet the conditions to continue protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers.
