People suffer because of degraded roads
In recent days, reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper have recorded the current situation of Nguyen Canh Di Street (from Dinh Cong Bridge to Dai Kim - Dinh Cong urban area) in a state of serious degradation, posing a high risk of traffic accidents.
This section is about 600m long, with a series of "elephant cages" and "potholes" that make vehicles move slowly, motorbikes have to squeeze close to the edge of the road to avoid derailing or hitting a deep hole.
Due to the lack of a drainage system, after each rain, the road has dozens of large and small puddles, posing a danger to road users.
"I have been here for more than 6 years and often travel this way. If you go in the evening or on rainy days without being careful, you can chip off your wheels and go to "elephant cages" or "potholes" at any time" - Ms. Nguyen Minh Anh, a resident of Dinh Cong ward, shared.
In fact, according to Ms. Minh Anh, there have been many accidents on this road. The deterioration of Nguyen Canh Di Street not only causes suffering for people but also clearly reflects the delay in urban infrastructure maintenance.

Mr. Tran Ngoc (35 years old, Dinh Cong ward) said that this road has been degraded for many years. People have petitioned the local government many times but have not seen any change.
"Every time it rains, it gets muddy, when the sun rises, the dust flies everywhere. Young children and the elderly are very dangerous to walk. We really hope that the government will soon have a solution to renovate and upgrade this road so that people can travel conveniently" - Mr. Ngoc said.
Why haven't they been built yet?
The road connecting Nguyen Canh Di Street to Dinh Cong Bridge is an internal road of the Bac Dai Kim Urban Area Expansion Project (11ha project), which has been assigned by the Hanoi People's Committee to Hanoi Housing and Urban Development Business Joint Stock Company to carry out site clearance and construction of the urban area's technical infrastructure system since 2003.
However, up to now, the 11ha project has not been completed, in which the internal road of the project, the extended Nguyen Canh Di road, has not been constructed.

Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Dinh Van Vuong - Deputy Director of Hanoi Housing and Urban Development Trading Joint Stock Company - said that the reason for the 600m Nguyen Canh Di road not being invested in construction for many years is due to land clearance problems.
According to Mr. Vuong, there are currently 8 households and 2 organizations with a total area of about 7,000m2 of land that have not been reclaimed to hand over the site for the project.
"For this project, the state is responsible for land acquisition and site clearance, while the enterprise will pay compensation. However, up to now, people have not agreed with the compensation price for site clearance" - Mr. Vuong said.
After the operation of the local government model, Mr. Vuong said that the company had sent an official dispatch, documents and records related to the People's Committee of Dinh Cong Ward to have a plan to support site clearance for the project.

Mr. Vuong also admitted that the shortcomings of the project's delay in implementation have greatly affected travel as well as people's lives.
Faced with the deterioration of Nguyen Canh Di Street, last year, the investor leveled the roadbed. However, due to the inability to install a drainage system, the road surface has deteriorated, become bumpy, and stagnant water when it rains for a while.
"We have gathered enough materials. It is expected that the road will be completed in about 2-3 months, but the most important thing is to have a site for construction" - Deputy Director of Hanoi Housing and Urban Development Trading Joint Stock Company said.
