Regarding the incident of a sinkhole that almost "swallowed" a SH car on the central route of Hanoi on the evening of July 26, Ms. Do Thi Thanh Thuy - Deputy Director of Hanoi Traffic Construction Joint Stock Company gave initial information to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters about the incident.
According to Ms. Thuy, on the evening of July 26, a Honda SH motorbike driven by a man carrying 2 people sitting behind, when reaching 234 Truong Chinh Street, suddenly collapsed, causing the front of the motorbike to get stuck in a hole.
"It is very small at the top, the hole below is quite large and deep" - Ms. Thuy said.
Regarding the cause of the incident, Ms. Thuy initially thought that it could be due to the heavy rain in the past few days leading to the collapse of the underground system underground.
"The collapsed culvert will lead to the road surface gradually collapsing above" - Ms. Thuy said and said that the unit is mobilizing excavators to the scene, serving the excavation of this area to find out the cause and have accurate conclusions about the incident.
Previously, a similar incident occurred on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street. Regarding the cause, Ms. Thuy said it was due to an open water supply pipe below the road surface.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Dat - who witnessed the incident said the incident happened at around 8:30 p.m. on July 26.
At this time, a Honda SH motorbike was traveling on Truong Chinh Street towards Nga Tu So, when it reached 234 Truong Chinh, the motorbike suddenly dropped into a hole in the middle of the road.
"Fortunately, the incident did not cause any injuries to the motorbike driver and the two people sitting behind. The front wheel of the motorbike fell into a deep hole" - Mr. Dat said.
Immediately after the incident, Road Traffic Police Team No. 3 (Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police) sent officers to protect the scene and direct traffic flow.
According to an officer of Road Traffic Police Team No. 3, the road surface in this area is paved with asphalt, not manhole covers. It is unusual for the road surface to suddenly sink so deeply.
The cause of the subsidence is currently being clarified by the authorities.
