According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, the El Nino phenomenon continues to increase in intensity and is likely to operate very strongly. The Western hot low pressure still maintains in the Southeast of China and the North of our country. Meanwhile, the upper subtropical high pressure has its axis passing through the South Central Coast and Southern Vietnam in the first week of the month, then weakens and gradually moves to the East.
From mid to late August, a tropical convergence zone is likely to form and pass through the central and northern areas of the East Sea. The South will therefore shift from a state governed by subtropical high pressure to being affected by the southern edge of the tropical convergence zone, combined with southwest monsoons operating at medium to strong intensity.
The forecast for total rainfall in the month is generally approximately or lower than the multi-year average, but rain will concentrate more in the middle and end of the month. The warned area may experience 2-3 heavy rains, and the East Sea is likely to form 1-2 tropical cyclones.
The average temperature in August is 0.6-1.1 degrees Celsius higher than the multi-year average. The highest temperature is commonly 31-34 degrees Celsius, with days reaching 35-36 degrees Celsius; the lowest temperature fluctuates from 24-27 degrees Celsius. Hot weather may still appear locally in some days.
Rainfall in August is forecast to be more clearly depleted in Can Tho, An Giang, Dong Nai and Lam Dong, lower than the multi-year average by about 10-20%. The whole area is expected to have about 15-23 days of rain in the month.
The meteorological agency also warned people to be wary of heavy rain causing localized flooding, thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, which can affect daily life, production and infrastructure. In addition, southwest monsoons intensifying in the second half of the month will make the weather at sea worse, posing potential risks for ships and boats, especially in the eastern sea area.
