Southern region is about to reduce rain and increase sunshine, but the risk of thunderstorms is not over yet

In the coming days, thunderstorms in the South will gradually decrease and narrow in scope. However, people still need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms.

In the afternoon of July 31, according to satellite cloud images, lightning positioning data and weather radar images, convection clouds are still existing in many areas of Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, Vinh Long and An Giang. In which, thunderstorms appear in areas such as Bien Hoa, Tran Bien, Dai Phuoc (Dong Nai); Chanh Phu Hoa, Tan Uyen (Ho Chi Minh City); and many localities of Dong Thap, Vinh Long and An Giang.

Convective cloud dens have a tendency to continue to expand. In the next 3 hours, the above areas will continue to have showers and thunderstorms, then rain is likely to spread to neighboring localities such as Lam Dong, Can Tho and Ca Mau. During thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail, strong gusts of wind; at the same time, be wary of the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides in hilly areas.

In the next 24-48 hours, the low pressure trough will continue to operate through the Central region, while the Southwest monsoon in the South will maintain average intensity. The upper air convergence zone will gradually move westward and weaken, while the subtropical high pressure will continue to encroach westward.

From 3-10 days, the low pressure trough through the Central region will tend to gradually rise to the North and weaken. Around August 5, a new low pressure trough is likely to form through the North. The Southwest monsoon will still maintain its average intensity and tend to strengthen from August 5. Above, the subtropical high pressure will also gradually move to the North and then weaken.

With this weather pattern, the South in the weekend tends to reduce rain, sunshine reappears and increase intensity, rain mainly occurs in the late afternoon and night with a narrower scope.

The meteorological agency notes that thunderstorms can still be accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, causing the risk of fallen trees, damage to houses, infrastructure works and affecting agricultural production. Localized heavy rain can also cause flooding, disrupting traffic and people's lives.
