Dark clouds cover many areas in Ho Chi Minh City, causing widespread thunderstorms and tornadoes, lightning, strong gusts of wind, and localized flooding.

On the morning of July 30, many areas in Ho Chi Minh City experienced thunderstorms, the sky was pitch black. From around early morning, dark clouds covered the sky in the central area and many areas in the East and South of the city. According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, monitoring on satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning shows that convective cloud areas are developing strongly, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in many areas of wards/communes such as Cau Ong Lanh, Tan Hung, Phu Dinh, Dien Hong, Thu Duc, Dong Hoa, Tan Dong Hiep, Ben Cat, Tru Van Tho and Long Hoa.

In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop, maintain showers and thunderstorms in the above localities, and at the same time tend to expand to neighboring areas.

Common rainfall is from 5-30 mm, in some places over 50 mm. During thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail, strong gusts of wind at level 5-7 (8-17 m/s) and the risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas.

The meteorological agency said that the weather pattern causing rain is due to the Southwest monsoon operating with moderate to strong intensity, combined with the wind convergence zone existing in the area, creating favorable conditions for thunderstorms to continue to develop.

On July 30, rain appeared early in the Mekong Delta region from about 10-13 am, then increased in area and intensity from afternoon to evening.

The Southeast region and Lam Dong, rain mainly concentrated from early afternoon to evening (after 13:00).

Widespread rain occurs in the South with a probability of over 80%, commonly light to moderate rain, locally heavy rain with rainfall over 50 mm/24 hours.

Notably, An Giang and Ca Mau are likely to experience heavy rain with a probability of about 20-40%. At night, the rain will decrease, only appearing scattered in a few places.

Forecast for the next 2 days (January 31st - August 1st), rain in the South tends to gradually decrease in both scope and amount. Rain mainly appears scattered in the afternoon and evening, the weather is generally more favorable for outdoor activities, but still needs to be wary of sudden thunderstorms during rush hour.
