On May 11, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee worked with representatives of 16 businesses in the area related to ineffective rubber land areas.
According to a report by the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in the period 2007-2014, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee (old) allocated land to 16 enterprises to implement 44 projects under the Program to convert poor forests to rubber cultivation, with a total area of more than 32,371ha.
Through assessment, only about 8,000ha of rubber grew and developed normally, accounting for 31% of the total area. The majority of the remaining area is rubber that died or grew poorly. In addition, nearly 3,200ha of land has been allocated but has not been planted with rubber; nearly 1,900ha has been handed over to local management.
To improve land use efficiency, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has reported and proposed to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to submit to the Government for consideration and approval of the policy allowing businesses to convert more than 22,063ha of dead and underdeveloped rubber to other projects such as cultivation, animal husbandry, energy...
Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested businesses to urgently develop and report on conversion plans for dead and underdeveloped rubber areas.
For areas with conditions for large-scale agricultural development and high-tech application, the province prioritizes production development to gradually build Gia Lai into a large raw material area.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested businesses to be honest and fully report on the feasibility of the conversion project; absolutely not to buy, sell, or transfer the project.
Businesses need to determine their capacity and deploy it to that extent. Agricultural projects must develop in a high-tech, circular, and closed direction. The province will resolutely recall ineffective operating projects.
