On October 28, information from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Gia Lai province said that the unit is continuing to coordinate with relevant agencies to monitor, inspect, and handle pig farms that violate regulations.
Currently, Gia Lai province has more than 100 medium to large-scale livestock projects with approved environmental impact assessment (EIA) reports.
Of these, 69 projects had their EIA reports approved by the Provincial People's Committee, and 31 projects had their EIA reports approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. 37 large-scale livestock farming projects have come into operation.
From 2023 to present, competent authorities have sanctioned 13 enterprises for violating regulations.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment imposed an administrative fine of VND450 million on Gia Lai Livestock Joint Stock Company. The reason was that Gia Lai Livestock Joint Stock Company did not have a decision approving the results of the environmental impact assessment report.
In addition, the authorities also suspended construction activities of the investment project's items.
The Provincial People's Committee has administratively sanctioned 9 enterprises and suspended the operation of waste sources without environmental licenses of livestock farms for 4.5 months.
To date, the above 9 units have paid fines of nearly 2.9 billion VND... In fact, after 2020, many businesses came to Gia Lai province to ask for investment policies for pig farm construction projects.
Because Gia Lai has a large land fund and favorable labor resources. However, initial results show that pig farm projects often cause environmental pollution and affect residential areas.
Currently, Gia Lai province has a policy of not trading the environment for economic growth and development.
After reviewing, for localities that have been determined to exceed the permitted density, the Department of Planning and Investment of Gia Lai province will issue a notice to relevant agencies not to accept new livestock project proposals.
