After 75 days and nights of urgent construction, many urgent flood control projects in the Capital are entering the completion phase, ready to operate before the 2026 rainy and storm season.
On April 27, Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung - Director of the Hanoi City Technical Infrastructure Management Center (Hanoi Department of Construction) said that the projects are implemented throughout holidays and Tet with the motto "3 shifts, 4 teams". Up to now, the flood control infrastructure system has basically completed the main items.
This is an effort to handle flooding "black spots", ensuring people's lives and traffic. Previously, in 2025, many heavy rains caused deep flooding, causing traffic paralysis, seriously affecting urban life. The Hanoi Party Committee has identified flooding as one of the "bottlenecks" that need to be focused on removing.

Implementing the direction to deploy projects in the spirit of urgency, the Technical Infrastructure Management Center has simultaneously constructed many items on a large scale. By April 26, 2026, 36/40 items have been basically completed, reaching about 95% of the volume, meeting the conditions for trial operation.
The main items include drainage culverts and ditches; drainage pumping stations and water level regulation pumping stations at the lake to lower the water level before heavy rain, increasing water storage and regulation capacity.
Many pumping stations in inner-city lakes have been upgraded and supplemented with equipment such as: Thu Le, Dam Chuoi, Dong Da, Den Lu, Thanh Cong, Tai Trau, Nghia Tan, Thanh Liet... The renovation helps improve drainage capacity for areas that are frequently flooded.
Notably, large-scale pumping stations in the western area of Hanoi City such as: Nga 1 Bridge, Nga 3 Bridge, Dong Tep and Bac An Khanh have been newly invested and built with large capacity. These projects have the task of solving flooding in urban areas along Thang Long Avenue, Tay Mo, Xuan Phuong, Nam An Khanh areas and many neighboring residential areas.
According to Mr. Hung, on April 28, 2026, the Center will coordinate with relevant units to simultaneously energize and test run all pumping stations (both loaded and unloaded). This is an important step to assess the actual operating capacity of the system before putting it into operation.
After the trial run phase, the units will continue to complete the remaining 4 items, including repairing the drainage system, culverts, canals, ditches and 2 regulating tanks in the Hang Da market area and under the Bac Duong underpass. The goal is to complete the entire project by April 30, 2026.
Next, completion works such as restoring sidewalks, installing railings, planting trees... will be implemented synchronously. It is expected that all 3 projects will be completed and put into operation before May 15, 2026.
Putting projects into operation on schedule is expected to improve drainage capacity, reduce urban flooding, and contribute to ensuring people's lives and sustainable development for the Capital in the upcoming rainy season.
