At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of April 23, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang answered reporters' questions about measures to protect citizens in the context that Japan recently warned of the risk of increasing earthquakes above 8 degrees after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake, triggering the tsunami warning on April 20.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said: Immediately after receiving the information, the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan activated emergency response measures when an earthquake occurred and worked with local functional agencies to grasp the situation and check information about Vietnamese citizens to deploy citizen protection plans in a timely manner.
Implementing the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan has notified and guided measures to prevent earthquakes and tsunamis to the Vietnamese community, especially those who are residing and working in the northeastern coastal area of Japan affected by earthquakes and tsunamis.
To date, no information has been recorded about loss of life or property of the Vietnamese community in the affected area" - Ms. Pham Thu Hang said.
Also according to the Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, currently, the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan is still working very closely with local functional agencies to closely monitor the earthquake situation and warnings about aftershocks as well as tsunamis and be ready with support and protection measures in case of Vietnamese citizens being affected.
As usual, in citizen protection situations, we still call on Vietnamese citizens who request urgent assistance to contact the citizen protection switchboard of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the citizen protection hotline of the Vietnamese Embassy and Vietnamese representative agencies in Japan" - Ms. Pham Thu Hang noted.
