At 8am this morning, Hanoi was ranked in the top 4 most polluted cities in the world.

The IQAir air quality index application at 8am this morning ranked Hanoi as one of the top polluted cities in the world with an AQI of 191.

Many measuring points in the West Lake area are still within the purple pollution threshold - a level very harmful to human health such as West Lake Compound AQI 256, To Ngoc Van AQI 249, Dang Thai Mai AQI 226, Tu Hoa AQI 226, Quang Ba AQI 222...

Other measuring points recorded red levels - harmful to human health are Tran Hung Dao (Hoan Kiem) AQI 195, Cu Khoi (Long Bien) AQI 199, Lo Duc Street AQI 194, Parabolic Gate on Giai Phong Street (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) AQI 192...

According to the Department of Environmental Pollution Control (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), PM2.5 dust levels in the North often increase from October to March of the following year, especially at night and early morning, before and after cold air waves. As of the end of October 2024, Hanoi has experienced four serious air pollution episodes, mainly concentrated in winter and early spring.

To reduce emissions, improve air quality and the environment, Hanoi has recently made efforts to implement many measures such as: Deploying buses using compressed gas (CNG), electric buses, planting 500,000 trees in the period of 2021 - 2025; installing more air monitoring stations...

Hanoi aims to plant 500,000 urban trees, renovate 45 parks and flower gardens, and complete 5 new parks in the 2021-2025 period, according to the City Party Committee's Program No. 03 on urban development and beautification.

According to Dr. Hoang Duong Tung - Chairman of the Vietnam Clean Air Network, from a management perspective, Vietnam needs to consider policies to encourage people to switch to electric vehicles that have been successfully applied by other countries such as: Financial support for people to switch to electric vehicles, exemption of registration fees for electric vehicles, creating favorable conditions for land to build charging stations, etc.
