Representatives of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board have just informed about the project to build the Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao metro line.
According to the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son signed a decision approving the adjustment of the investment policy for the Hanoi Urban Railway Construction Project, Line 2, Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao section. This is an important traffic route, contributing to the development of a modern and sustainable public transport system for the capital city of Hanoi.
The project has a total length of 11.5km, including 8.9km underground and 2.6km elevated; there are 7 underground stations and 3 elevated stations. This railway line has 10 trains.
This project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2029 and have 2 years of operation and maintenance training.
The total investment of the project is nearly 35,600 billion VND, equivalent to more than 1,500 million USD. Of which, ODA capital borrowed from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is more than 29,000 billion VND; the counterpart capital of Hanoi city budget is nearly 6,000 billion VND.
Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB) said that the units will implement the project from 2025.
According to MRB, railway line No. 2 forms an important backbone, connecting the inner city area, Noi Bai International Airport and the northern urban area of Hanoi.
"This is an important step to build a modern, synchronous and sustainable transport network for the capital, meeting the requirements of socio-economic development and improving the quality of life of the people," said an MRB representative.
This project was approved by Hanoi in 2008. The initial total investment was 19,555 billion VND.
The starting point is Nam Thang Long along Nguyen Van Huyen extended street - Hoang Quoc Viet - Hoang Hoa Tham - Thuy Khue - Phan Dinh Phung - Hang Giay - Hang Duong - Hang Ngang - Hang Dao - Dinh Tien Hoang - Hang Bai; the end point intersects with Tran Hung Dao street.
