Accordingly, the company has flexibly adjusted the time of spraying water to clean the streets, while increasing the frequency of spraying, contributing to improving air quality and protecting the living environment for people.
Many areas in Hanoi have recorded air pollution with PM 2.5 dust index exceeding the permissible level. The quality monitoring stations of the Department of Environmental Pollution Control (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) show that the PM 2.5 dust index at some measuring points at noon is above or below 150 - equivalent to a bad warning, the peak at 11am, the PM 2.5 dust index at the measuring point at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Giai Phong Street, Hai Ba Trung District is 169. Some suburban areas also have AQI index exceeding the permissible level.
One of the objective causes pointed out is that in the winter in the North, unfavorable meteorological conditions such as low rainfall, calm weather, and temperature inversion prevent fine dust from dispersing. On the other hand, the increase in traffic volume and the sudden increase in smoke and dust from construction sites at the end of the year also increase the pollution situation.
Following the city's direction on adjusting the appropriate road washing time to reduce air pollution and fine dust during peak hours with high traffic volume and people on the road, Urenco has increased the number of vehicles and road washing times, and adjusted the time to ensure maintaining air quality for people, especially during peak hours.
According to Urenco leaders, as usual, Urenco units carry out road washing from around midnight until 2am the next morning. However, recently, due to the increasing air pollution, the unit has adjusted the time of spraying water to wash the roads more appropriately, at the same time, increasing the number of road washing sessions at noon for some routes to limit dust and improve air quality and the environment.
This is part of the emulation movement "Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful" that is being strongly implemented throughout the city.
The campaign not only helps improve air quality, but also raises public awareness in environmental protection, contributing to building a green, clean, beautiful, and friendly Hanoi for tourists and residents.
At Hoan Kiem Lake walking street, many locals and tourists enjoy doing morning exercises in the fresh air and clean streets.
At the end of the year, construction projects are racing to meet deadlines, causing dust pollution. Therefore, adjusting the time for street cleaning in the early morning before rush hour is a necessary solution to help improve air quality for the people of the capital.
