Hanoi is accelerating the progress of 10 urgent flood control projects, setting a goal to complete the main items before the 2026 rainy season.
According to the Hanoi Department of Construction, the short-term project group serving flood control includes 2 drainage system projects, 7 regulating lake projects and 1 flood control support project throughout the area.

Among them, 2 key projects are being focused on implementation: Thuy Phuong canal renovation and downstream Kim Nguu river renovation.
Recorded on March 31 at the Thuy Phuong canal project, units are organizing 23 construction teams on the entire route. The item of renovating the 3,566m long open canal is being implemented simultaneously with prestressed concrete piles, Larsen piles and construction of box culverts. The nearly 4km long box culvert line, connecting from Hoang Minh Thao - Vo Chi Cong area to To Lich river, is also being constructed with a large volume of components being installed.

Mr. Vuong Hong Son - Commander of Thuy Phuong pumping station (Dai An Construction Joint Stock Company) - said that the project has completed excavating the foundation pit and base; it is expected to complete the pile foundation and base level by April 30, and it will be joined by May 31. Currently, the units are organizing 3 consecutive shifts of construction, striving to complete in June 2026 if weather conditions are favorable.
According to the Hanoi Department of Construction, this is a project that plays the role of leading the flow and main drainage, directly affecting the efficiency of the entire urban drainage system.

In parallel with drainage lines, the regulating lake system is identified as an important solution to regulate water when it rains heavily. In the first deployment phase, 5 regulating lakes have been approved for investment, including: Thuy Phuong 2, Yen Nghia 1, Yen Nghia 2, Dong Bong 2 and Phu Do.
To date, 4 lakes have been handed over 100% of the site, including Thuy Phuong 2, Yen Nghia 1, Yen Nghia 2 and Dong Bong 2. Phu Do lake alone has reached about 89% of the area, and the remaining part is continuing to be cleared.
The construction volume of the lakes reached more than 1.1 million m3 of excavated soil out of a total of more than 3.4 million m3 according to the plan. The work of pressing piles and embankments has also been deployed synchronously, ensuring the progress of the main items.

For Lien Mac 1 and Chem Lakes, investment preparation and site clearance are being carried out. In which, Chem Lake has completed 100% of site clearance, while Lien Mac 1 Lake has reached about 53%.
When completed, the regulating lake projects will increase temporary water storage capacity, reduce pressure on the sewer system and drainage canals in heavy rain conditions.
In addition, the city is implementing a flood control support system project. The project has completed surveys, collected data at flooded points, pumping stations and is completing dossiers to submit for appraisal in March 2026.
For the project group invested by the City Technical Infrastructure Management Center, there are currently 3 urgent projects to renovate the drainage system being implemented.
Specifically, the project to renovate and increase the capacity of some pumping stations to solve flooding along Thang Long Avenue is under construction for 6 items. The project to renovate, upgrade and build new drainage systems in urban areas such as Resco, Ecohome, Tay Ho Tay and Vo Chi Cong, Long Bien, Dong Anh, Gia Lam areas is implementing 8 component items.
Along with that, the project to build and install additional pumping stations for lakes, regulating tanks and pipeline systems in the To Lich - Ta Nhue basin is under construction for 4 important items. The main items of these 3 projects are required to be completed before April 30, 2026 to serve localized flood control during the rainy season.

In parallel with construction investment, the handling of localized flooding points is also being implemented synchronously. For 220 flooding points that appeared in storms No. 10 and 11 in 2025, the Department of Construction has directed units to survey and identify specific causes at each location.
On that basis, local treatment plans are developed to improve surface water drainage capacity, and at the same time adjust the system operation plan accordingly, reducing the risk of re-inundation in 2026.
Mr. Truong Hai Long - Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Construction said that urgent projects are basically being implemented on schedule. However, in some construction sections, the arrangement of barriers is inevitable, affecting people's lives and travel.

To ensure progress, the Department of Construction requests investors to mobilize maximum manpower and equipment, organize continuous construction; and at the same time review and adjust the detailed progress of each item. The projects are implemented in a spirit of urgency, avoiding delays, ensuring completion before the 2026 rainy season.
