Determined to reclaim sidewalks
Since the beginning of the year, under the direction of the Hanoi People's Committee and Steering Committee 197 at all levels, the campaign "reclaiming sidewalks" for pedestrians has achieved many positive results. The situation of "makeshift markets", "temporary markets", encroaching on sidewalks and roadways for business and parking has basically been handled, especially during the day.
Leaders of Yen Hoa Ward Police said that the awareness of a part of the people is still limited; many street vendors move by motorbike and bicycle, quickly leaving when they see functional forces checking, causing difficulties for handling.
To improve management efficiency, Yen Hoa ward police have established Zalo and Facebook groups to receive feedback and denunciations of violations from people. When receiving images and information about violations, functional forces will quickly be present to handle them, ensuring deterrence.
Mr. Can Duc Dung - Vice Chairman of Phu Dien Ward People's Committee - said that the campaigns are not only aimed at handling short-term violations but also the long-term goal is to build self-awareness in the community.
Many business households, after being propagated and explained, have proactively dismantled violating works and self-cleared goods without waiting for enforcement.
Hanoi becomes more civilized
Reporters' records show that on many streets in Cua Nam ward, sidewalks and roads have become more clear.
Leaders of Cua Nam Ward Police said that in addition to propaganda and mobilization, the ward promotes the application of smart surveillance cameras and receives feedback through iHanoi, VNeID to handle violations.
On central streets such as Ly Thuong Kiet, Pho Hue, Hoa Ma... the situation of selling goods, placing billboards, tables and chairs encroaching on sidewalks has been resolutely handled. Many areas that were once "hot spots" of urban order violations have now become clear, creating convenience for people to travel and contributing to improving the urban appearance towards civilization and modernity.
Mr. Thang Duc Nghia (resident of Hang Trong street) said that when sidewalks are returned to their proper function, the urban face also becomes more civilized. However, the handling needs to be maintained regularly to avoid re-encroachment.
Mr. Le Van Thinh (75 years old, residing in Hue street) said that sidewalks are spaces for pedestrians and cannot be occupied for a long time.
Re-establishing sidewalk order is not new, but with the drastic involvement of functional forces and the awareness of compliance of the people, many Hanoi streets are becoming cleaner, more open, and more civilized. This is the foundation for the Capital to move towards a modern and sustainable city, putting people at the center.
