On June 24, the Hanoi Traffic Management and Operation Center (Tramoc), under the Hanoi Department of Construction, announced that from June 25, 2026, Hanoi City will officially operate the interconnected electronic ticket card system on the entire public transport network.
This is a specific step to implement the policy of promoting national digital transformation, in which public transport is identified by Hanoi as a pioneering field.
According to the Hanoi Department of Construction, the new system allows centralized management of all public passenger transport activities, from operating planning, ticket issuance to acceptance and settlement. Data is updated in real time, helping management agencies closely monitor the operations of transport units.
Notably, for the first time, Tramoc can monitor and operate the entire system on a single platform, contributing to overcoming the situation of discreet and unsynchronized data as before.
Data digitization also creates a basis for the city to adjust the network of routes, operating frequency and fare policies to suit reality. Immediately after deployment, the system will automatically apply a free policy for passengers traveling in Ring Road 1 according to the resolution of the City People's Council, from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.

Another new point is that the acceptance process between management agencies and transport enterprises is carried out entirely in an electronic environment, instead of manual methods before. The acceptance cycle is shortened from monthly to daily, helping to make payment and settlement faster and more transparent.
For transport businesses, using a common platform helps streamline the apparatus, reduce personnel costs and improve management efficiency. Stages such as ticket issuance, personnel management and revenue control are all automated.
On the people's side, the most noticeable change is that they no longer have to use cash or paper tickets. Passengers can pay with traffic cards, bank cards, QR codes or e-wallets. People aged 60 and over only need to use citizen ID cards to travel by car.
The ticket price is calculated based on the actual distance. When getting on the bus, passengers perform the "touch card" operation, the system will temporarily calculate the cost according to the entire route. When getting off the bus, the system automatically adjusts according to the traveled distance and refunds the difference (if any).
In addition to single tickets, passengers can choose day tickets, weekly tickets or monthly tickets with flexible terms from 1 to 12 months.
According to the Hanoi Department of Construction, in the coming time, the system will continue to be expanded, connected with other modes of transport such as metro, public bicycles, taxis and technology vehicles, aiming to form a more interconnected and convenient transportation network for people.
The commissioning of the interconnected electronic ticketing system is expected to contribute to changing travel habits, improving service quality and attracting people to use public transport in the Capital.
