Series of strategic transport projects connecting regions
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Saigon - Gia Dinh City being officially honored to be named after President Ho Chi Minh (July 2, 1976 - July 2, 2026), Ho Chi Minh City is preparing to simultaneously start construction of 10 key projects with a total investment of more than 381,000 billion VND before July 2.
The most prominent in the list is the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line, nearly 48km long, of which the section through Ho Chi Minh City is about 11.5km and Dong Nai is more than 36km. The line is designed with 18 stations, including 2 underground stations and 16 elevated stations. The project has a total preliminary investment of about 17,5 trillion VND, implemented in the form of BT (build - transfer). The city sets a target to complete it by 2030.
Also aiming to effectively exploit Long Thanh airport, the Ho Tram - Long Thanh airport expressway will be started in this phase. The route is more than 42km long, with a scale of 6 expressway lanes and a parallel road system on both sides, with a total estimated investment of 51.5 trillion VND under the BT contract. The project is expected to be completed in 2029, contributing to strengthening connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.
The sea-crossing road project connecting Can Gio - Vung Tau is considered a breakthrough project. The route has a total length of about 14km with a scale of 6 lanes. In which, the sea-crossing bridge is more than 8km long, the sea-crossing tunnel is nearly 3.9km and the access road is about 2km. The total estimated investment is more than 93,000 billion VND in BT form.
When completed in 2029, the road will directly connect Ho Chi Minh City with Vung Tau along the coast, shortening travel time to about 15-20 minutes. The project also opens up room for Can Gio sea tourism development, increasing the exploitation capacity of Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster.
Increase inner-city connectivity, expand development space
In addition to regional linkage projects, Ho Chi Minh City promotes investment in inner-city traffic infrastructure. After starting construction of Ben Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Cultural Park on April 30, the city continues to expand Nguyen Tat Thanh road, about 2.1km long, to 8-10 lanes, combining the construction of Hoang Dieu underpass, Tan Thuan 1 bridge, Tan Thuan 2 bridge and three pedestrian bridges.
Ho Chi Minh City also started construction of Thu Thiem 4 bridge across the Saigon River, with a scale of 8 lanes, total capital of more than 5,000 billion VND. The project is about 2.16km long, connecting Nguyen Van Linh street with Thu Thiem New Urban Area. Expected to be completed by the end of 2028, Thu Thiem 4 bridge will create an additional axis connecting directly between the East and South of Ho Chi Minh City.
Along with that, the Binh Tien bridge and road project with a total investment of nearly 6,300 billion VND will form a new radial traffic route from the central area to the south of the city. The project includes an elevated road about 3.1km long with a scale of 4 - 6 lanes and a parallel road more than 3.3km long. The project starts from Pham Van Chi street, crosses the Tau Hu canal, Doi canal, crosses Nguyen Van Linh avenue and connects to National Highway 50.
Another important project is the Cat Lai - Phu Huu inter-port road connecting the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway and Ring Road 3 of Ho Chi Minh City, with a total investment of about 8.782 billion VND. The route is nearly 6km long, 60m wide with 12 lanes. On the route, a large-scale Ba Cua bridge will be built with a total of 10 lanes and a 4-lane elevated road section from Phu Huu port to the expressway intersection. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2028, contributing to reducing congestion in the Cat Lai port area and improving the city's logistics capacity.
Simultaneously investing in the environment and social housing
In parallel with developing transport infrastructure, Ho Chi Minh City is also implementing a project to improve the water environment in the old Binh Duong area with a total investment of more than 7, 211 billion VND.
The project will build a large-scale wastewater collection network, pumping stations and increase the capacity of wastewater treatment plants in Tan Uyen, Thuan An and Di An...
For the housing sector, Ho Chi Minh City will start construction of the Social Security Housing Project Area 3 and Area 4 Dinh Hoa in Chanh Hiep ward with a total investment of more than 3,226 billion VND, providing about 4,368 apartments. Besides, there is the Social Housing Project Area 2 and Area 7 Viet Sing in An Phu ward with a total investment of nearly 1,590 billion VND, providing more than 1,860 apartments.
