Keeping the house after such a big event
On the evening of August 22, Sacombank issued a press release, deciding to waive all debt obligations of about 1.7 billion VND of Mr. Le Ngoc T (45 years old) and Mrs. Ngo Thi Th (37 years old), residing in Tay Ho commune, Da Nang city.
Mr. T and Ms. Th are the two victims who died in the tragic electric shock that occurred on July 30, leaving behind two sons of school age.
According to the bank, at the time of the accident, Mr. and Mrs. T still had an outstanding debt of about 1.7 billion VND at Sacombank Quang Nam Branch, including credit card debt. The collateral for the loan was the family's house.
After considering the special circumstances of the two children, the bank decided to cancel all debt repayment obligations. Meaning, Le Viet Hong Anh (19 years old) and his younger brother (11 years old) can keep the house - the property and also the only remaining residence after their parents suddenly passed away.
Previously, Hong Anh had directly come to the bank to present her situation, asking to freeze and extend the debt left by her parents. At that time, the male student was preparing to enter his second year of university, without income. His younger brother was in 5th grade.
Hong Anh's biggest worry is not only the billion-dong debt, but also the risk that the three grandparents and grandchildren will no longer have a place to live.
Because before the accident, due to losing their jobs, debt pressure and the cost of raising their two children to study, Mr. T and Mrs. Th had considered selling the two-story house that the couple had saved up for many years to build.
That house was once the result of many years of labor, and then also became a collateral for a bank loan.
Now, the debt write-off decision has helped the two brothers keep the roof - something that seemed very unlikely to happen just a few weeks after the incident.
That affection, my two brothers and I will cherish it for life
For Hong Anh, the biggest loss is still that no money can compensate.
At about 9:30 am on July 30, Mr. Le Ngoc T was repairing the corrugated iron roof when he was electrocuted. Seeing her husband in trouble, Ms. Ngo Thi Th rushed in to rescue him and was also electrocuted to death.
In just a few minutes, the two brothers lost both father and mother.
In the days after the funeral, Hong Anh wrote lines of thanks to those who helped the family. The male student said that the most painful thing is that from now on the call "dad, mommy" will no longer have a response.
While the family was in the most difficult days, many strangers came to share and support the study and life of the two brothers. Hong Anh's younger brother was later adopted by the Da Nang Border Guard Command as a "dopt son of the Border Guard Station", supporting him until he finished 12th grade; a philanthropist also agreed to accompany the two brothers' studies.
The person who deposited 200 million VND to buy the house of his parents also came to receive 160 million VND and support 40 million VND for the two orphaned brothers.
Before the feelings received, Hong Anh once emotionally wrote: "My parents are gone, but we still feel the love of many people". She said that the two brothers will cherish those kindness throughout their lives.
This decision to write off the debt of 1.7 billion VND once again relieves the great burden placed on the shoulders of the student who just lost his parents.
Representatives of Sacombank Quang Nam Branch said that the decision stemmed from sympathy for the great loss of the two brothers, with the desire for them to have more conditions to stabilize their lives and continue their studies.
The bank will work with the family to complete the procedures for exemption from debt repayment obligations.
From having to plan to sell the house to pay off debts, now Hong Anh and her younger brother can keep the home to worship their parents.
