According to information at 9:00 AM on July 1st, the low pressure area in the eastern sea area in the central East Sea has strengthened into a tropical depression and is forecast to continue to strengthen into a storm.
At 7:00 AM on July 1st, the center of the tropical depression was at about 14.5 degrees North latitude; 118.8 degrees East longitude, over the northeast sea area of the central East Sea. The strongest wind near the center reached level 6 (39-49km/h), gusting at level 8 and moving in the West-Northwest direction at a speed of about 10km/h.
According to forecasts, by 7:00 AM on July 2, the tropical depression will move in the West-Northwest direction at a speed of 15-20km/h, strengthening to level 7, gusting to level 8 when in the southern sea area of the Northern East Sea. By 7:00 AM on July 3, this system is likely to strengthen into a storm with intensity level 8-9, gusting to level 12 when approaching the northern sea area of the Hoang Sa special zone.
Hai Phong City Hydrometeorological Station warns that the sea area east of the North and Central East Sea (including the Hoang Sa special zone) has strong winds of level 6, then increasing to level 7, gusting to level 10; the area near the center of the tropical depression has sea waves of 3-4m high, strong rough seas. Ships operating in dangerous areas are at risk of being affected by thunderstorms, tornadoes, strong winds and large waves.
Previously, on June 30, the Hai Phong City Civil Defense Command requested departments, branches, and localities to closely monitor weather forecasts and warnings; promptly notify vehicle owners, captains and fishermen operating at sea to proactively prevent and adjust appropriate exploitation plans, ensuring safety for people and property.
Localities and units maintain smooth communication to promptly handle bad situations that may occur; and at the same time be ready with forces and vehicles to deploy rescue and relief work when requested.
The Hai Phong City Civil Defense Command requests units to strictly implement the duty regime, regularly update the situation, and promptly report to the Sub-Department of Water Resources Management and Disaster Prevention and Control for synthesis and handling according to regulations.
