Due to the influence of storm No. 5 and prolonged heavy rain, widespread flooding occurred in Hoan Long commune (Hung Yen province). Many rice, vegetable and fruit trees were damaged, directly affecting production and people's lives.
According to records, in low-lying areas of Chan Dong village, the water was more than 1m deep. Mr. Tran Van Huu, a resident in the village, said that vegetables in low-lying areas were almost affected: "The sweet cabbage was 100% damaged, the goose, the firecracker, and the eggplant died. Bananas grown in higher areas are still flooded from 30 to 40 cm, seriously affecting development. Since yesterday, the water has only receded about 5 feces, which is very slow" - Mr. Huu said.
Not only vegetables, fruit trees and ornamental plants such as kumquat and guava are also affected. Mr. Huu shared: "There are trees like kumquat and guava that take one or two years to have good seeds, now if they die, it will be very difficult to restore. Colored flowers can be replanted in a few months, but some other trees take a lot of effort.

It is known that Hoan Long commune is a growing area for many types of plants such as ornamental kumquat, winter kumquat, guava and vegetables serving the market. Prolonged flooding can disrupt the production plan of people, especially long-term crops for sale during Tet.
In this situation, the Hoan Long commune government has implemented many emergency measures. The locality proactively releases water from the Bac Hung Hai River into the Kenh Cau Enterprise Lake to reduce pressure and prevent the risk of dike breach. At the same time, the commune mobilized hundreds of cadres, militia, police, members of organizations and people of Xuan Trang village to urgently reinforce and build dykes to prevent floodwaters from flooding into the village, protecting the safety of people's lives, property and production.
In addition to drainage, the government recommends that farmers take advantage of harvesting the vegetable areas that have reached the season, proactively zoning and protecting the remaining areas to limit damage.
