The serious degradation situation on Ben Nghe street (Tan Thuan ward) not only causes difficulties for goods transportation but also becomes a nightmare for people and drivers traveling through the South of the city.

In recent days, the Ben Nghe road leading to Tan Thuan Port and Vietnam International Container Port (VICT) has recorded serious degradation. Although it is in the sunny season, the road surface still appears with a series of "potholes", "potholes" and deep water-filled holes, some holes are about 3m wide and up to 30cm deep. This situation causes many trucks and container trucks to get stuck, while motorcyclists have to drive onto the sidewalk to avoid "traps" on the road surface.

Ben Nghe road, about 2km long, is the backbone connecting Nguyen Van Linh, Huynh Tan Phat streets with VICT port cluster, Tan Thuan, Ben Nghe and Tan Thuan export processing zone. With thousands of large tonnage trucks entering and leaving every day, the pressure on infrastructure is extremely high.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hau, a technology motorbike taxi driver, shared: "The road is short but counting it, there are nearly ten large and small holes. Motorcyclists have to stick to the edge of the road because the outside is full of container trucks, which is very unsafe.
Living here for more than 60 years, Mr. N.V.A. wearily called this "painful road". According to him, the specialties here are "potholes", "craters" and dust. "If you don't spray water, you can't stand it, dust sticks layer upon layer to the house. And every time it rains or there is high tide, the whole road section is flooded with mud," Mr. A. said.

A long-time salesman in this area added that traffic jams often occur, anyone who is not familiar with the road can easily fall. The road is too bad, causing many technology car drivers not to dare to continue driving; they have to invite customers to walk down because they are afraid that the vehicle will collapse into a deep water pit.

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of Tan Thuan Ward People's Committee said that the locality has proactively patched temporarily many times to maintain traffic. However, due to the large number of heavy-duty vehicles combined with damaged drainage systems, the road surface deteriorates very quickly after each tide.

Faced with this situation, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has approved the proposal of the Department of Construction, assigning the Traffic Management and Technical Infrastructure Center to proactively use regular expenditure capital in 2026 to immediately repair Ben Nghe and Luu Trong Lu streets.
Representatives of Tan Thuan ward informed that, in the immediate future, tonight (April 21), the Traffic Management and Technical Infrastructure Center will temporarily repair damaged locations and fill deep holes on Ben Nghe street to ensure safety.

According to a report by the Department of Construction, the port cluster area in Tan Thuan ward currently has about 1,700 operating businesses and 3,000 residents. The heavy damage at the two Luu Trong Lu and Ben Nghe routes not only causes unsafety and traffic congestion in the port gate area but also spreads to main connecting roads such as Nguyen Van Linh road, Huynh Tan Phat road... From there, it affects the traffic situation in the southern gateway area and logistics operations of Ho Chi Minh City.

Due to the specific nature of serving heavy trucks regularly and the ward's limited maintenance capital, the City Police and Tan Thuan Ward People's Committee have agreed to request the Department of Construction to assign the Traffic Management and Technical Infrastructure Center to directly manage and maintain. This solution aims to ensure synchronous traffic connection and have timely intervention and repair of damages in the coming time.
