On March 3, Mr. Huynh Uy Vien - Chairman of Cam Lam Commune People's Committee - directed relevant agencies to inspect and verify the phenomenon of thousands of herring suddenly drifting to Bai Dai beach.
According to records, the incident occurred in the morning of the same day in the beach area near The Arena resort, in Cam Lam commune.
At the scene, schools of herring swam close to the water's edge, some were swept ashore by waves. At times of high waves, many continued to be swept ashore. People discovered the incident and quickly picked up the fish to take back for food.
Herring appeared densely, stretching about 1 km along the coast. By about 8 am on the same day, the phenomenon of fish drifting ashore ended.
According to some local fishermen, this is not a rare phenomenon.
This time is the harvest season for herring, so fish often move in large schools to find places to lay eggs. When encountering big waves or fluctuations in the water flow, some fish may be pushed ashore.
Currently, local authorities continue to monitor and clarify the specific causes to promptly inform people.
