On August 31, reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper recorded at the National Special Historical Relic Site of Nga Ba Dong Loc (Dong Loc commune, Ha Tinh province), thousands of people and tourists from all directions came to offer flowers and incense to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs.
Despite the drizzly weather, crowds still continuously poured into the grave of 10 female Youth Volunteers at Nga ba Dong Loc and the National Youth Volunteer Memorial Stele to offer incense.
Coming with his family from Hanoi to offer incense and express gratitude to the heroic martyrs, Mr. Vu Quang Muc (70 years old) said that he was very touched when burning incense in front of the graves of 10 female Youth Volunteers at Nga ba Dong Loc.
From Tuyen Quang province to Ha Tinh province to offer incense, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Loan (42 years old) shared: "This year's National Day holiday, my family and I traveled a very long distance to come here to offer incense in gratitude to 10 female Heroic Martyrs of Dong Loc Crossroads Youth Volunteers.
I am very touched and grateful for the contributions and sacrifices of the heroic martyrs to have the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
According to historical documents, at 4:00 PM on July 24, 1968, Squad 4, Company 552 was ordered to go to key points in the area where the enemy had just dropped bombs to level bomb craters, repair roads, consolidate shelters, and deepen drainage ditches on the only road section, more than 300m south of Nga ba Dong Loc.
10 Youth Volunteer girls arrived at the scene and quickly deployed their work. A group of jets from the North to South passed through the key point. When the plane passed, the girls continued to work.
Suddenly, the group of jets turned around and dropped a series of bombs that hit the formation of 10 girls. After the enemy's series of devastating bombs, all 10 girls sacrificed themselves when they were very young.
10 female Youth Volunteers include: Vo Thi Tan (24 years old), Ho Thi Cuc (24 years old), Nguyen Thi Nho (24 years old), Duong Thi Xuan (21 years old), Vo Thi Hoi (20 years old), Nguyen Thi Xuan (20 years old), Ha Thi Xanh (20 years old), Tran Thi Huong (19 years old), Tran Thi Rang (18 years old) and Vo Thi Ha (17 years old).
The sacrifice of 10 girls at Nga ba Dong Loc has become an immortal symbol of revolutionary heroism, reminding today's generations of the losses and sacrifices for the country to have peace, independence, and freedom.
On August 31, Mr. Dao Anh Tuan - Deputy Director of the Management Board of Nga Ba Dong Loc Relic Site and Ly Tu Trong Memorial Area - said that during this holiday, every day Nga Ba Dong Loc Special National Historical Relic Site welcomes thousands of people and tourists to offer incense.
To better serve the incense offering needs of tourists during the National Day holiday on September 2nd, the Management Board has arranged 100% of personnel to be on duty.
Previously, the Management Board also organized cleaning and embellishing the relic site grounds, hanging flags and banners to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
