As reported by Lao Dong, the death hole is located close to the fence of the official housing area at Nguyen Binh Khiem Boarding Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities in Vo Nhai commune, Thai Nguyen province.
On July 13, information from the People's Committee of Vo Nhai commune said that the sinkhole was located right in the area adjacent to the stream, the soil was weak and had long been gradually eroded.
The recent heavy rain caused the stream water to rise, flowing rapidly, digging more than 10m deep into the foot of the foundation, sweeping away the soil inside, creating a sinkhole.
The collapse extended from the foot of the wall down to the flow of Can stream, causing two 13.5m long fences to collapse, affecting the structure of the school's western yard. This location continues to have a high risk of landslides, especially when floods are still complicated.
The locality has inspected the scene, set up barriers, isolated dangerous areas and requested cadres, teachers and students not to approach the subsidence area. At the same time, the Commune Economic - Infrastructure Department was assigned to coordinate in developing a solution.
From March 2025, in Kim Lu commune, Na Ri district, Bac Kan (old), now Thai Nguyen province, unusual subsidence points have appeared continuously near National Highway 3B.
At the end of May 2025, a young man and a motorbike crashed into a fence and fell into a death hole on National Highway 3B.
