The project to upgrade and expand National Highway 13 from 6 to 8 lanes, 12.7km long, was started in April 2022. However, to date, the project has not yet completed site clearance for construction.
The section through Thuan An city still has 12% of the land not yet handed over. The unfinished land clearance also affects the progress of moving the power grid along Highway 13.
According to records, up to now, new electric poles have been planted along Highway 13 in Thuan An City. However, old electric poles and internet cables have not been relocated. The cables hanging down the road pose a danger to people.
Regarding construction, due to lack of land, the construction was interrupted. The units took advantage of the land to construct as soon as it was available, however, because the power grid had not been relocated, the road construction became unfinished.
Many sections along Highway 13, in front of people's houses, have deep ditches, causing water to stagnate when it rains, greatly affecting people's travel and business.
Notably, the section right in front of the Thuan Giao Ward Medical Center, Thuan Giao Ward People's Committee and Thuan Giao Ward Post Office, formed a deep ditch, affecting the way to the agencies. Furthermore, the cables in this section also dangle down the road, which is very dangerous.
According to the People's Committee of Thuan An City, the city is focusing on site clearance. Currently, the city has completed the construction of the resettlement area, is promoting the mobilization of people to receive resettlement land and hand over land for the National Highway 13 expansion project.
The city is expected to complete site clearance by the end of the fourth quarter of 2024. Thus, the project’s expected completion date by the end of this year continues to be delayed.
Hope the project will be done faster
Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh (40 years old, living in Thu Dau Mot city) said that he often travels on National Highway 13 through Thuan An city. "The section from VSIP Industrial Park towards Thu Dau Mot city often has traffic jams. During rush hours, two lines of cars move slowly. Meanwhile, motorbikes have to move close to the roadside and into the land where the National Highway 13 expansion project is being implemented. The unfinished construction project has been prolonged, making people's travel more dangerous" - Mr. Thanh shared.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huu (45 years old, living in Thuan An city) expressed: "The power line is being relocated. I also hope that the construction unit will soon level the ground and construct the project so that people can travel and do business more conveniently."
