On the morning of December 29, a source from Lao Dong Newspaper confirmed that the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) had just sent a document requesting the authorities of Dak Lak province to report on the case of soaking bean sprouts in toxic substances. The report must be submitted before December 30.
Recently, the police discovered that 6 businesses in Buon Ma Thuot City had sold about 2,900 tons of bean sprouts soaked in banned chemicals. On average, each business produced 8 to 10 tons of bean sprouts per day.
There is one production facility that has signed a contract to sell 350-400kg of bean sprouts per day to a local supermarket. Among them is the Bach Hoa Xanh chain of stores in Dak Lak province.
According to Mr. Do Tuan Hung - Head of the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) of Dak Lak province, there were 6 bean sprout production facilities discovered and handled by the police.
Of these, only Lam Dao Trading Company Limited (abbreviated as Lam Dao Company) was granted a certificate of food safety eligibility. The rest have not yet been granted a certificate of food safety eligibility.
The certificate was issued to Lam Dao Company (Ea Tu commune, Buon Ma Thuot city) on April 22 and is valid until April 22, 2027. The unit meets food safety conditions to produce and trade products (processing, packaging, trading green bean sprouts - PV).
Regarding this incident, the Bach Hoa Xanh system has issued a notice committing to refund customers who have purchased Lam Dao brand bean sprouts. This move is applied to the system's stores located in Dak Lak province.
To get a refund, customers only need to provide a paper or electronic invoice from Bach Hoa Xanh's loyalty software that records the purchase of bean sprouts from Lam Dao Company. In addition to a refund, customers can also exchange for another product if they want.
The leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak province informed that the unit has requested the Dak Lak Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management to specifically report this serious incident in writing.
In fact, the management and supervision of food production and trading establishments (including bean sprouts - PV) still have many loopholes. Therefore, it is necessary to have the drastic participation of many agencies from the central to local levels. Thereby, in order to evaluate and review the management mechanism and legal regulations in the inspection and supervision of the above field.
As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, the authorities have simultaneously inspected 6 bean sprout production facilities in Buon Ma Thuot city.
Of which, there are 2 establishments of Lam Van Dao (born in 1990), residing in Ea Tu commune; 2 establishments of Vu Duy Tu (born in 1991); 1 establishment of Nguyen Van Quynh (born in 1973) and 1 establishment of Nguyen Van Hao (born in 1988), all in Tan Hoa ward.
During the inspection, the subjects confessed that in the process of producing bean sprouts, they used lime, well water and a colorless liquid. The colorless liquid was often called "candy" water by the subjects.
According to the Economic Police Department, Dak Lak Provincial Police, the "candy" water is the active ingredient 6-Benzylaminopurine. This active ingredient is not on the list of substances permitted for use in food production and the list of pesticides permitted for use in Vietnam.
