QUANG TRI - Due to the complicated developments of African swine fever, Quang Tri province has had to destroy nearly 2,000 pigs, with a total weight of over 100 tons.

On July 15, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province said that after the first outbreak of African swine fever appeared in Kim Phu commune in mid-May, the epidemic continued to spread to many localities. To date, the whole province has recorded the epidemic in 44 villages in 11 communes, including Kim Phu, Tan Thanh, Phong Nha, Quang Trach, Tan Gianh, Dong Le, Tuyen Son, Tuyen Lam, Trung Thuan, Con Tien and Hoa Trach.

Kim Phu commune has not had any new cases for 21 days. However, the remaining 10 communes are still experiencing outbreaks and have not been completely controlled.

To prevent the spread, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has provided 2,350 liters of disinfectants to localities. At the same time, the authorities focus on destroying sick pigs, strictly controlling the slaughter, transportation and trading of pig products.

According to the professional sector, the work of monitoring, handling outbreaks and propagating preventive measures is being urgently deployed to limit damage to livestock farmers and protect healthy livestock.
