According to information from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province, from May 28 to now, African swine fever has broke out in 21 villages in 6 communes in the province: Kim Phu, Tan Thanh, Phong Nha, Quang Trach, Tan Gianh and Dong Le. The total number of pigs forced to be destroyed was 451, with a weight of nearly 28 tons.
Notably, Phong Nha commune is a hot spot for the epidemic, when the epidemic occurred in 37 livestock households, in 9 villages. Currently, all localities with the epidemic have not passed the 21-day deadline, with the risk of continuing to spread strongly to neighboring areas. In Nghe An, in the first 5 months of the year, since the beginning of the year, the whole province has recorded at least 70 outbreaks in 13 districts, cities and towns. The total number of pigs forced to be destroyed is over 1,700, with a total weight of over 99 tons.
Previously, African swine fever also tended to develop complicatedly in the northern mountainous provinces. In Son La, as of June 12, African swine fever has broke out in 19 groups and villages of 13 communes, wards and towns in 4 districts and cities of Son La province, including: Van Ho district, Yen Chau, Muong La and Son La city. The total number of sick pigs that had to be destroyed was 257 with a total weight of 9,467kg.
In Lang Son province, from the beginning of 2025 to the end of June 12, the whole province recorded outbreaks in 428 households in 136 villages, spread across 61 communes of 10 districts and cities. The total number of pigs forced to be destroyed is up to 1,293, with a total weight of nearly 69,000kg.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) said that the Department has continuously directed the Departments of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to face the risk of a new outbreak of African swine fever.
A representative of this Department said that the Department has established dozens of working groups to inspect and guide the prevention and control of African swine fever in some provinces and cities. In recent times, the Department has also continuously organized national conferences on animal disease prevention and control, strengthening communication on African swine fever prevention.
"In the coming time, the Department will continue to establish inspection teams to guide the prevention and control of African swine fever in some key pig farming provinces and provinces with prolonged epidemics. In addition, there will be epidemic monitoring programs to detect early and promptly warn of epidemics," said a representative of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine.
Since the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has continuously issued official dispatches on focusing on drastic and synchronous implementation of solutions to prevent and control African swine fever and urgently vaccinating livestock.
