According to the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (DOLISA) of Soc Trang province, in 2024, by mobilizing many resources from the Central and local levels, integrating programs with the efforts of poor and near-poor households, the province has reduced 4,042 poor households and 4,569 near-poor households. The whole province currently has 4,484 poor households (1.34%); 17,084 near-poor households (5.10%).
Implementing the policy of "The whole country joins hands for the poor - No one is left behind", the province has coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security to mobilize and support the construction of 1,200 houses for the poor and those with housing difficulties in the province with a total cost of over 60 billion VND. The province has also supported housing for poor ethnic minorities and poor Kinh households with a total of 1,050 households.
During the year, the province also created jobs for 32,180 workers; of which, 544 workers were sent to work abroad under contracts.
Regarding the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2024, Soc Trang was allocated over 114 billion VND. Disbursement by November 15 reached 60%, striving to reach 95% of the capital plan by the end of 2024.
Mr. Dang Thanh Quang - Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Soc Trang province - informed that on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the unit will continue to coordinate with departments, branches and localities to advise the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of Soc Trang province to mobilize social resources to give gifts to 21,568 poor and near-poor households. The estimated cost is about 10.7 billion VND.
Regarding the implementation of the national campaign to join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, the whole province has 5,502 poor and near-poor households with housing difficulties that need support. The total implementation cost is over 318 billion VND.
By 2025, Soc Trang province will achieve the target of 76.5% of trained workers; 45.9% of trained workers with diplomas and certificates; and 84.5% of working workers compared to the total working age population. Reduce the poverty rate by an average of 0.1% per year; of which, reduce the Khmer poverty rate by 0.2% per year. Complete 100% of the target of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the area.
