Reduce the poverty rate
Lak district is located in a remote area of Dak Lak province, mainly inhabited by ethnic minorities, with difficult lives.
However, in 2024, Lak district government achieved and exceeded many targets set by the District People's Council Resolution on sustainable poverty reduction.
Accordingly, the poverty rate decreased by 3.73%, reaching 106.57% of the plan (the Resolution proposed a reduction of 3 - 3.5%). In particular, the poverty rate among ethnic minorities in particularly disadvantaged communes decreased by 5.72% (the Resolution set a reduction of 4% or more).
Mr. Nguyen Van Chien - Head of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Lak district - said: "To exceed the set target is the effort of the entire political system, departments and organizations. In particular, the units have integrated many projects of the National Target Program and have many solutions to guide people on how to do business effectively to escape poverty".
From 2021 to present, the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of Lak district has coordinated with the District Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center to open many vocational training classes for rural and mountainous workers with economic development skills.
The center has provided vocational training to about 1,500 students in the area in occupations such as: Construction, farming, animal husbandry, cooking, agricultural machinery repair, civil electricity, driving...
Learn a trade to improve your income
Mr. Y Pin Lieng (living in Yang Tao commune) shared: “In the village, young people only know how to go to the forest to work on the fields, grow cassava, pick coffee when the season comes and when they are old enough to get married. Just like that, life is immersed in poverty, with food shortages during the lean season.
Thanks to learning how to grow and care for coffee, I have increased agricultural production and improved my income. This year in particular, the coffee harvest is good and the price is good, so my family and children's lives are more fulfilling."
H Luom Du (also residing in Yang Tao commune) said: “At first, I had no intention of joining a vocational training course because I had dropped out of school a long time ago. Looking at books and calculating was very tiring. But thanks to the encouragement of teachers and commune officials, I joined the farming class.
Now, I have knowledge about care and fertilization techniques. I will guide people in the village and commune to renovate mixed gardens and choose new coffee varieties to grow with high productivity and efficiency.
In July 2024, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Lak district opened a job fair in Bong Krang and Dak Nue communes.
Here, more than 300 workers listened to teachers, businesses, and investors consult on enrollment and future career orientation.
Ms. H Et Lieng (residing in Yang Tao commune) shared that in the mountainous areas, people only rely on a few acres of barren rice fields, old coffee land with low productivity. Some people raise chickens, grow clean vegetables to sell at the market, but their living expenses are still lacking.
At the fair, workers find new opportunities that can change their future. Workers know which businesses in the province are recruiting for which jobs, what the salary is, as well as the appropriate age and skill level.
Road, school, and medical station projects that are being prepared for construction need to hire local teams of workers to participate.
According to the People's Committee of Lak district, vocational training is to improve the professional qualifications of workers. The job fair is to provide official information that workers need to grasp to have a direction for their own development.
From there, workers participating in the service supply chain can liberate labor, creating necessary wealth for society.
