Landslide, ship sinking
On the morning of September 13, Hue City Hydrometeorological Station said that from 7 pm on September 10 to 7 am on September 13, Hue City experienced heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some places. Total rainfall was commonly 250 - 500mm, especially Bach Ma peak up to 1,250mm, Nham A Luoi 672mm, Xuan Loc 654mm and A Dot 640mm.
Heavy rain has caused initial damage. In A Luoi 1 commune, a house in A Nam village had its foundation eroded about 75m2. Local forces have supported Mr. Ho Van Toang's family to move property to relatives' houses.
On National Highway 49, at about 3:23 pm on September 12, at Km67+800 and Km75+830, in the area to A Luoi, a positive taluy landslide of about 150m3 occurred, soil and rocks buried about 50m of ditch, causing traffic disruption for about 30 minutes.
At sea, fishing vessel TTH-30115-TS, 9m long, anchored at Thuan An fishing port, was sunk by strong waves and winds at noon on September 12. The Hue City Border Guard mobilized forces to coordinate with the family to salvage the vessel.
Also on September 12, the cargo ship STAR CITY, Vietnamese nationality, with a tonnage of 24,000 tons, ran aground in the Binh An - Chan May Bay sea area. On board were 17 crew members, 22 tons of DO oil and 225 tons of FO oil.
The ship was not punctured and is currently anchored by 7 underwater tunnels. Two tugboats were hired for rescue but have not been able to approach due to bad weather, strong Northeast monsoon and high waves. Thua Thien Hue Maritime Administration continues to monitor and request the implementation of safety measures and prevention of environmental pollution risks.
Heavy rain will continue
According to the City Hydrometeorological Station, due to the influence of the intertropical convergence zone connected to the tropical depression, from September 13 to the end of September 15, Hue will continue to have heavy rain, very heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The total forecast rainfall is commonly 200 - 300mm, with some places over 400mm; especially the Bach Ma area with some places from 800mm to over 1,000mm.
Along with heavy rain, the risk of tornadoes, lightning, strong gusts of wind, flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and steep slopes continues to be at a noteworthy level. People need to proactively stay away from areas at risk of landslides, deep flooding and roads with weak taluys.
Tropical depression at 4:00 AM on September 13th has its center at about 17.0 degrees North latitude, 108.8 degrees East longitude, over the sea area of Quang Tri - Da Nang City. The strongest wind near the center is level 6, gusting to level 8, moving in the Northwest direction at a speed of about 10km/h.
From September 13-14, the coastal area of Hue City will gradually have strong winds of level 4 - 5, gusts of level 6 - 7; the sea area will have level 6 winds, gusts of level 7-8, waves 1.5 - 3m high, rough seas. Ships operating at sea are at high risk of being affected by thunderstorms, strong winds, big waves and rising water.
The water level of the Perfume River at Kim Long at 7:00 AM on September 13th is 1.37m, 0.37m higher than alarm level I; the Bo River at Phu Oc is 1.59m, 0.09m higher than alarm level I.
Irrigation and hydropower reservoirs in the area are assessed to still be safe. However, with forecast rainfall continuing to be very large, the development of water levels and the risk of flooding on rivers need to be closely monitored.
