Hue evacuates people from dangerous areas to avoid storm number 4

THUA THIEN HUE - To ensure people's safety before storm No. 4, authorities have evacuated hundreds of people in Nam Dong and Phu Loc districts to safety.

On September 19, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Thua Thien Hue province said that due to the impact of storm No. 4, there will be heavy rain, very heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms on the mainland from the morning of September 19 to September 21. The total rainfall for the entire period is generally 200 - 300mm, with some places over 500mm.

To ensure the safety of the people, on September 18 alone, Nam Dong district evacuated 34 households/119 people to safe locations; in Phu Loc district, local authorities organized the evacuation of households living at the foot of Phu Gia and Phuoc Tuong mountains, which are at risk of landslides, to safe places on the morning of September 19.

Regarding irrigation, the People's Committee of Quang Dien district mobilized more than 150 people from the local militia force, 20 baskets, and 260 m3 of rock to reinforce 50m of embankment at Hoi Han Tong, Quang Phuoc commune.

To ensure safety and prevent possible accidents caused by storm No. 4, the Department of Education and Training has allowed students in the entire province to stay home from school from the morning of September 19.

On the morning of September 19, in the face of the complicated developments of storm No. 4, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Thua Thien Hue province said that the province has made plans to evacuate and relocate 16,349 households/52,186 people to cope with the storm; the plan to evacuate and relocate to cope with flash floods and landslides is 3,743 households/13,615 people. In addition, Thua Thien Hue province has also reserved 100 tons of rice and 10 tons of instant noodles, ready to cope with storms and floods.
