On September 13, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province coordinated with Road Management Area II to conduct a comprehensive inspection of bridge piers in the province to ensure safety for bridges, traffic, people and vehicles before the rainy and stormy season.
At Phu Xuan, Truong Tien, and Phu Luu bridges, the authorities and diving teams conducted technical inspections of the bridges, abutment structures, bridge piers, and structures that are easily affected by changes in flow, erosion, material exploitation, floodwaters, and collisions and drifting and getting stuck by watercraft.
After the inspection, the working group will synthesize and send to the professional agency to evaluate the current quality of the project. In case of detecting an emergency situation affecting the safety of the project, it will report to the competent authority to promptly have a plan to ensure the safety of the project and traffic safety.
Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh said that on this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee has directed relevant units to organize inspections and assessments of the safety level of bridge works managed by the province, especially large bridges crossing rivers, bridges that have been put into operation and used for many years, in which it is necessary to pay attention to inspections and assessments of impacts on the structure of the lower part of the works including foundations and bridge piers affected by the flow and geological changes after many years of operation and exploitation to propose appropriate treatment measures according to the level of impact and technical requirements.
In addition, to ensure control of vehicle load, timely prevent overloaded vehicles from participating in traffic on routes, especially routes with weak bridges, in complicated adverse weather conditions, the Provincial People's Committee has previously issued an official dispatch requesting the Department of Transport, the Provincial Police and agencies, units and localities to conduct inspections, supervision and post-inspections of overloaded vehicles traveling through low-load bridges, bridges with limited load capacity, and weak bridges in the whole province.
